Jacquie and Christine attended their first Quarter Horse show with JR this
weekend. They had a wonderful time and did well for their first show.
The first day started off with 2 Showmanship classes. Jacquie had tried
showmanship once in a small fun show and Christine had never attempted it.
They both did their best, but needed much more experience to compete with
the other kids out there. Jacquie and JR almost ran into the judge and
then he wanted to eat one of the cones as they went by. Christine stopped
way short of the judge, but didn't fall when she trotted him.
Jacquie placed 7th & 8th (out of 8) and Christine placed 6th under both judges.
Next came Hunter Hack. Here is where JR really shined. Lindsey
rode him the in Open Hunter Hack placing 2nd & 3rd out of 6. Jacquie
jumped on him and then rode in the 18 & Under Hunter Hack class. Out of 6
participants, they placed 2nd under both judges! Jacquie had
an outstanding ride and he behaved beautifully. Everyone was really
excited has this was the first jumping he had done in the show.
The Under Saddle class that followed wasn't pretty. JR didn't behave at
the canter. His walk and trot work were very good. They placed 9th
out of 9 under both judges.
The equitation classes went better. Jacquie placed 6th under both
judges out of 8. Christine placed 3rd & 4th in her classes.
The second day we scratched out of Showmanship. The patterns were to
difficult for JR & the girls. We try again next show and hopefully they
will not be so hard.
In Hunter Hack, they rocked again. Lindsey and JR placed 3rd.
Jacquie and JR placed 1st & 2nd - earning them the circuit championship in 18 &
Under Hunter Hack. The points she earned this weekend in Hunter Hack,
put her first place in the state for Youth Hunter Hack and earned her a spot on
the Washington State Youth World Show team. Because JR is still very
green and Jacquie is young, we declined the invitation. If
this weekend is signs of things to come, there will be plenty of other
opportunities for the two of them in the future.
The Under Saddle class today was much better. JR behaved very well and
Jacquie had some wonderful transitions. They looked great. However,
it wasn't what the judges were looking for. She placed 7th out of 7.
The equitation classes were also fairly good. Jacquie and JR placed 4th
and 5th out of 6. Their halt in the pattern could have been better.
Christine placed 4th under both judges out of 4. She too rode well, but
was facing kids with much more experience than she has. I'm sure
with every show they will continue to improve.
